What is Gold Vermeil?
As a jewelry designer, I am often asked about the materials I use in my jewelry. I always welcome these questions because I believe being informed helps us to better understand our purchases AND I was once that person who didn't always understand the differences in the different metal options.
Now that I'm in the know, I've got your back! 🙌🏻
This is the 2nd installment in my Frequently Asked Questions series. Today, let's talk about Gold Vermeil...
What is Gold Vermeil?
Gold vermeil (ver-may) jewelry has a sterling silver core and is plated with gold. Gold vermeil is a popular choice for those looking for a more affordable option compared to solid gold jewelry. And bonus - the presence of sterling silver underneath the gold plating makes it a more hypoallergenic choice compared to jewelry with copper or brass cores.
With a thicker plating than regular gold plating, it offers a longer-lasting shine but must have proper care to protect its finish.
