WHAT DOES ‘CUSTOM’ MEAN?

Custom means that a piece was designed with the recipient in mind! 

There are generally two types of custom work that I do for clients - customizations and bespoke items. 

Customizations are variations of existing LJ Artisan Designs pieces. For example, if you love the Lily Necklace, but would like to have it in solid gold, or if you’d like the Eleanor Ring with a tourmaline instead of a kyanite stone, we can work together to make that happen. Bespoke pieces are items that are truly One of a Kind and are the result of a step by step collaboration with a client to create a jewelry item that will be treasured for years to come. See a gallery of previous bespoke pieces.

WHAT STONES DO YOU WORK WITH?

I work with semi precious stones such as topaz, turquoise, aquamarine, tourmaline, keshi pearls, jaspers, agates, and so many more gorgeous gemstones. Some of my favorites are larimar, labradorite, and peruvian blue opal! 

CAN YOU WORK WITH MY HEIRLOOM STONES?

The answer is… maybe. Stones are reset at your own risk. I take great care when removing stones, but chipping and breakage may occur. Evaluation of the stones will have to be done prior to the decision to redesign using these stones.  

WHAT METALS DO YOU WORK WITH?

I work with solid gold, sterling silver, gold filled, and copper, among others. I love mixing metals as well, such as sterling silver with solid gold accents.

WHAT IF I’M NOT SURE WHAT I WANT?

That’s totally OK! Most people aren’t sure exactly what they want and even when they do come in with ideas, it’s common for those ideas to change somewhat during the consultation. You and I will work together to create a jewelry piece that you will cherish for years to come! 

HOW MUCH DOES CUSTOM WORK COST?

Each custom piece is One of a Kind and made from scratch so it is difficult to give an accurate quote until we have a full design meeting. Gemstones and metals are sourced just for you and hand-picked by you. The price is determined by the materials used, the complexity of the design, time spent on sourcing and creating the piece as well as fluctuations in materials costs. Customizations typically start at $250. Bespoke items typically start at $350.

DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT FOR CUSTOM JEWELRY ORDERS?

Yes, a 25% deposit is required once we’ve finalized the design of your custom jewelry piece following your design consultation.

This deposit allows me to begin sourcing the perfect materials for your piece—whether that’s a specific gemstone, a particular cut, or a distinctive metal type or texture. Because material availability and pricing can fluctuate, your deposit secures the time and resources needed to bring your vision to life and lock in your spot on my custom design calendar.

Custom jewelry is a thoughtful, collaborative process, and your deposit reflects a mutual commitment. It covers the time spent sourcing materials, preparing pricing, and beginning work on your design. The remaining balance will be due when your custom piece is complete and ready for delivery.

HOW LONG DO CUSTOM ORDERS TAKE?

Custom orders typically are ready within 8-12 weeks once the design is finalized and the deposit is paid. (If I can finish your order sooner, I am thrilled to do that.) Please allow for additional time during peak seasons.
